How staged aligner therapy actually works

What are clear aligners? Clear aligners are custom-made, removable trays that move teeth in small planned stages — a brand-neutral term for the category Invisalign® belongs to.

Each tray carries a slight, deliberate difference from the last. Wear one, graduate to the next, and teeth follow the plan — stage by stage, supervised by a dentist who examines, scans, and adjusts as you go. That clinical layer is the whole difference between aligner therapy and a product in the mail.

  • Smooth plastic, and nothing attached — comfort first
  • Removable for meals, moments, and everything in between
  • Supervised by a licensed provider, not an app

Our angle

Brands advertise; anatomy decides. The plan should fit your teeth — and the provider behind the plan matters more than the name on the box.

What your consult should settle

Is it right for your case?

Alignment, spacing, and bite all factor in. The exam answers it with records — not a hallway opinion.

What will the stages demand?

Wear discipline, attachments, and check-in cadence vary by plan. You should hear the honest version at the consult.

What holds the result afterward?

Every straightened smile wants a retention plan. Retainers and follow-up belong in the conversation from day one.

What are clear aligners made of?

Aligners are made from smooth, medical-grade clear plastic, thermoformed to your teeth at each stage of the plan. The material is designed to flex just enough to apply gentle, controlled force — and it's why there are no brackets or wires anywhere in the system.

How are aligners different from retainers?

They look related, but the jobs differ: aligners move teeth through planned stages, while retainers hold teeth where they've arrived. Many patients eventually wear a retainer after aligner treatment — one for the journey, one for keeping it.

Can aligners close gaps between teeth?

Gap closure is one of the movements aligners handle well — provided the bite supports it. The digital plan shows exactly how far the space can close before treatment ever starts.
